By 1890 it was consolidated with the 4th & 5th Streets Line. ![]() The Germantown Avenue Line began operation prior to 1877 running from Germantown Depot at Germatown & Slocum to 8th & Dauphin. The Route 23 is color coded black since it is currently a bus line in the SEPTA system. The route is named for Germantown Avenue, but it also utilizes 11th Street for northbound traffic and 12th Street for southbound traffic in Center City. The Route 23 is a NiteOwl route offering daily 24 hour service. Route 23:Germantown Avenue is a trolley line that was suspended in 1992 and is currently operated as a bus route by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) that connects the Chestnut Hill neighborhood in northwest Philadelphia with the South Philadelphia area.
